Discovery Day
The school year begins with hands-on stations, team challenges, curiosity, relationship-building, and opportunities for teachers to observe student competencies.
The message is simple: I belong here.
Village Kidpreneur Holiday Market
Students identify a need or opportunity, develop products or services, research materials and costs, create branding, produce inventory, calculate pricing and ROI, market ethically, serve real customers, track results, and reflect on improvement.
Money is an outcome - not the mission. Students learn to create value and serve others.
The Speak Life Project
Students learn that words carry weight. They practice noticing goodness, giving truthful encouragement, creating anonymous notes and Jars of Courage, writing hope-filled messages beyond The Village Community School of Sarasota, and reflecting on the impact of language.
Words matter. Use them carefully. Use them generously. Use them truthfully. Use them to bring life.
Annual Community Campout
The campout is the capstone of the preparedness and outdoor capability block. Students practice planning, teamwork, shelter, safety, navigation, food systems, courage, stewardship, and age-appropriate independence with a different emphasis each year.
Treasure Tide
A spring adventure combining exploration, beach stewardship, history, navigation, puzzles, collaboration, environmental care, reflection, and community memory. Students learn to notice both wonder and responsibility.
The Village Gathering Project
Students learn how to create spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and connected. They may build, prepare, decorate, cook, invite, serve, host, communicate, and reflect - learning that hospitality is not perfection. It is making room.
Every child should learn how to build a table. It is just as important that they learn how to invite someone to sit at it.
Village Day of Service
Students identify needs, organize teams, coordinate resources, complete meaningful work, and reflect on impact. Leadership is not about being important. It is taking responsibility for the good of others.
Spring Family Event
A celebration of community, growth, hospitality, student work, and the shared life of The Village Community School of Sarasota.
Portfolio Celebration
Students gather evidence of growth, revisit challenges, demonstrate skills, tell the story of their year, honor progress, and set a vision for what comes next.
The Village Storybook
The Storybook helps The Village remember: a living record of God’s faithfulness, community, and childhood lived well - handwritten captions, muddy boots, projects, laughter, tears, courage, and growth.
