The Village Community School of Sarasota is seeking a warm, energetic, creative, and mission-aligned Part-Time 7th-8th Grade Middle School Teacher to join our growing Bible-based homeschool co-op community.

As a 7th-8th Grade Middle School Teacher at The Village Community School of Sarasota, you will do more than deliver lessons.

You will help students strengthen academic foundations, rebuild confidence, think critically, ask meaningful questions, persevere through challenges, develop responsibility, and discover the joy of using what they learn.

You will work within a thoughtfully developed curriculum framework while having room to incorporate movement, games, experiments, stories, discussion, nature, creativity, and real-world application.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead Strong, Engaging Academic Instruction

• Teach grade-appropriate level-based Math, Reading, Writing, and Language Arts using the curriculum and resources provided by VCSS.

• Adapt instruction to meet students at their assessed level of readiness rather than relying solely on age or grade.

• Use hands-on activities, games, experiments, discussion, movement, and practical application to deepen understanding.

• Identify academic gaps, recognize student strengths, and adjust support when appropriate.

• Help students build confidence through genuine competence, progress, and perseverance.

• Provide appropriate at-home reinforcement activities in partnership with VCSS families.

Create A Classroom Where Children Flourish

• Build a Christ-centered, warm, joyful, orderly, and emotionally safe learning environment.

• Establish clear expectations while responding to students with patience, consistency, wisdom, and respect.

• Help each child feel known, valued, challenged, and invited to contribute.

• Protect childhood wonder while teaching responsibility, diligence, and follow-through.

• Encourage students to ask questions, attempt unfamiliar tasks, learn from mistakes, and take increasing ownership of their work.

• Support students with different learning styles, academic levels, personalities, and developmental needs.

Make Learning Active and Meaningful

• Use the full VCSS environment, including classrooms, gardens, outdoor areas, and project spaces, whenever appropriate.

• Connect academic concepts to practical experiences such as measuring, budgeting, gardening, building, cooking, researching, communicating, planning, and problem-solving.

• Collaborate with practical-skills instructors, workshop leaders, and other educators to create a coherent student experience.

• Participate in selected projects, community activities, celebrations, service opportunities, and Village Signature Experiences.

• Maintain strong safety awareness during classroom, outdoor, garden, animal, and hands-on activities.

Support Faith Formation

• Demonstrate a sincere and active Christian faith consistent with the mission of VCSS.

• Integrate biblical truth, prayer, gratitude, stewardship, service, character, and identity in Christ throughout the learning environment.

• Model humility, integrity, patience, wisdom, responsibility, and loving communication.

• Help students understand that knowledge and capability are gifts to be stewarded for the good of others.

• Participate in Village Table Talk, prayer, Scripture conversations, and other faith-forming rhythms as assigned.

Partner With Families And The VCSS Team

• Communicate professionally, warmly, and clearly with parents regarding student growth, concerns, placement, and at-home learning.

• Respect the essential role parents retain in their child’s homeschool education.

• Collaborate with VCSS leadership, fellow teachers, support staff, and expert instructors.

• Maintain accurate student records, progress notes, lesson plans, and other required documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Current teaching certification.

• Must be able to pass a background check.

The Village Community School of Sarasota is seeking a warm, experienced, creative, and mission-aligned Part-Time Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs within our growing Bible-based homeschool co-op community.

We believe children should not be defined by a diagnosis, learning difference, test score, behavior, or area of difficulty.

The ideal candidate knows how to identify learning barriers, provide targeted academic support, strengthen executive-function skills, collaborate with teachers and families, and help students build genuine confidence and independence.

What You’ll Do:

• Provide individual and small-group academic instructional support and intervention.

• Support students with needs such as ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, autism, executive-function challenges, processing differences, and other mild-to-moderate learning needs.

• Identify academic gaps and adapt instruction to meet students at their current level.

• Provide targeted support in Reading, Writing, Language Arts, Math, and executive-function skills as needed.

• Use multisensory, hands-on, movement-based, visual, and practical teaching strategies.

• Differentiate instruction based on student readiness, strengths, learning profile, developmental needs, and demonstrated progress.

• Provide accommodations and instructional modifications when appropriate while maintaining meaningful academic expectations.

• Help students develop strategies that allow them to become increasingly independent learners.

• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on student response.

• Assist students in transferring skills learned during intervention into their regular classroom environment.

• Help students develop organization, time management, task initiation, attention, planning, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills.

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to recommend accommodations, instructional strategies, and appropriate supports.

• Review educational evaluations, IEPs, 504 Plans, or other learning-support documentation when provided by families.

Schedule: Wednesday afternoons, 12:45-2:45pm approximately 3 hours per week. 2 hours of instruction and 1 hour of paid planning.

VCSS welcomes fluent speakers from many different backgrounds. World travelers, homeschool moms and dads, retirees, missionaries, international professionals, native speakers, bilingual community members, tutors, college students, and experienced educators are all encouraged to apply.

A teaching degree or certification is not required. We are looking for someone who knows the language well, enjoys working with children, and can make language learning engaging and memorable.

The goal is to create an encouraging introduction to the language while helping students develop useful vocabulary, listening comprehension, accurate pronunciation, conversational confidence, and cultural awareness.

Lessons should be active, age-appropriate, and engaging. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate conversation, games, movement, songs, stories, food, geography, art, traditions, role-playing, and practical scenarios.

Primary Responsibilities:

- One hour of paid planning and lead approximately two hours of foreign-language instruction each Wednesday afternoon.

- Teach vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, conversation, and introductory reading or writing as developmentally appropriate.

- Create interactive lessons using games, stories, music, movement, visual materials, projects, and cultural experiences.

- Adapt activities for students of different ages, abilities, and levels of prior language exposure.

- Establish a warm, organized, respectful, and engaging learning environment.

The Village Community School of Sarasota is seeking a warm, practical, enthusiastic Part-Time Organic Horticulture Elective Teacher to lead hands-on gardening lessons and guide students in caring for the VCSS garden.

Master gardeners, experienced home gardeners, homesteaders, farmers, nursery professionals, landscape professionals, homeschool parents, retirees, agricultural students, and gardening enthusiasts are encouraged to apply.

The Opportunity

The Part-Time Organic Horticulture Elective Teacher will introduce students to the science, skills, and stewardship involved in growing healthy plants and maintaining a productive garden.

Lessons may include:

- Planting and propagation

- Seed starting and transplanting

- Soil health and composting

- Seasonal garden planning

- Watering and irrigation

- Organic gardening methods

- Pollinators and beneficial insects

- Plant identification

- Pest and disease management

- Harvesting and seed saving

- Herbs, vegetables, flowers, and native plants

- Food systems and garden-to-table learning

- Responsible care of tools, land, and natural resources

The goal is not merely to teach children facts about plants. It is to help them develop patience, responsibility, observation skills, practical competence, and respect for God’s creation.

- Teach for approximately one hour each Monday morning, with one extended two-hour session per month.

- Create age-appropriate, hands-on lessons involving planting, growing, maintaining, harvesting, and observing.

- Teach safe and responsible use of gardening tools and materials.

- Adapt activities for students of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.

- Help students understand plant life cycles, soil, water, weather, insects, food production, and stewardship.

- Prepare necessary materials and communicate supply needs to VCSS leadership.

- Maintain a safe, organized, welcoming, and productive outdoor learning environment.

- Encourage responsibility, teamwork, curiosity, perseverance, and respect for living things.

- Communicate with VCSS leadership regarding garden plans, student learning, seasonal priorities, and maintenance needs.

- Follow all VCSS safety, behavior, child-protection, and classroom-management expectations.
