The Village Community School of Sarasota is a Homeschool Co-Operative. We provide a facility for enrolled homeschool families to learn together.

VCS offers a unique and first of it's kind option for families who want their children to experience hands-on Life Skills like cooking, wood working, gardening, budgeting, auto mechanics and more, while being around other like-minded children and families.

Our program includes core education on Math, Reading and Writing/Language Arts, along with Foreign Language, Art and the Life Skills and Extracurriculars that make VCS so unique.

All families must fill out our Enrollment Packet and be interviewed by our Director. Interviews can be done in person or via phone/zoom.

The Enrollment Packet should answer most questions and highlight topics such as: tuition, scholarships/discounts, volunteer requirements and more. Please read through the packet first and then feel free to email with any further questions.

We will include grades 7-8 starting next year!

Classes Offered

Classes are from 9:45am-2:45pm. Families can choose how many days per week and which classes their student joins

  • Core Day classes include teaching Math, Reading and Writing/Language Arts only. We cover core academics for half a day on Monday (the other half of the day is Life Skills) and then a full day on Tuesday. Students receive at-home study that is comprised of family games, dinner table conversations and worksheets when necessary. We are an ENRICHMENT program; our studies and curriculum encompasses a wonderfully broad range, but parents are expected to continue to home school their students to progress them to the next grade level. We are not a drop off substitute for public school.

  • Life Skills classes include topics like carpentry, auto mechanics, survival, cooking, budgeting/entrepreneurial studies, homesteading and much more.

  • Extracurriculars day includes half day of foreign language (Italian, Latin or ASL) followed by one of our 'extracurricular' topics like natural medicine, oceanography, bible study, business management, archery, foraging, zoology, Veterinary medicine and more.
Each year offers a different set of subjects so students have the opportunity to remain engaged and advance in their skillset.

  • Small Group Tutoring for students who need a little extra help in subjects like handwriting, spelling, reading, math. Students will be quietly evaluated by their teachers when school starts, teachers will then make a recommendation to parents for the children who could benefit from 1:1 time with a skilled Interventionist. Intervention is an additional fee that can be paid monthly. STEPUP IS ACCEPTED.

  • Parents can drop off, or stay on campus in our parent work room, or the courtyard. In-class volunteer days will be notated on the calendar in advance; parents also have the option to schedule a day to be in class to observe.
